Six B.C. Companies Achieve ‘AnimalKind’ Accreditation: BC SPCA Launches Program for Humane Dog Training

Dr. Sara Dubois, the chief scientific officer for the BC SPCA, highlighted the importance of this program, stating that many dog owners struggle to find a good trainer who uses humane methods. With AnimalKind accreditation, dog owners can now easily identify reputable trainers who prioritize the well-being of their furry clients.

Already, six companies in British Columbia have been accredited by AnimalKind, including Bravo Dog, Ocean Park Dog Training, Yaletown Dog Training, Ethical Canine Training & Behaviour Modification, Cowichan Canine Behaviour & Training, and Positive Dog. These companies have demonstrated their commitment to positive reinforcement training and have met the high standards set by the BC SPCA.

To develop these standards, the BC SPCA consulted with international animal behaviour and dog training experts, as well as local trainers and veterinarians. The research supports the use of reward-based training, showing that dogs trained with aversive methods exhibit negative responses such as increased aggression and stress behaviors.
