Meagan Cook: The Woman Saving Hunting Dogs One Adoption at a Time

Meagan Cook: The Girl Who Moves Dogs

In the world of dogs and the people who love them, Meagan Cook stands out as a shining example of passion and dedication. As the Fishing Manager for Orvis Austin in Texas, Meagan’s professional identity may revolve around fishing, but her true calling lies in re-homing dogs through her organization, Field to Family Dogs.

Field to Family Dogs is on a mission to give a second chance to dogs that have been deemed as financial liabilities at commercial hunting operations. These dogs, whether retired due to age, illness, or washouts who didn’t make the cut, often face a grim fate once they no longer serve a purpose in the industry. Meagan saw this as unacceptable and decided to take action.

Meagan’s journey with Field to Family Dogs began when she unexpectedly brought home a young English cocker spaniel that had washed out of a training program at a wingshooting lodge. Little did she know, the dog, named Birdie, was pregnant and soon gave birth to five purebred pups. This experience opened Meagan’s eyes to the dire need for re-homing dogs in the industry.

Since then, Meagan has re-homed over 50 dogs, primarily cockers, GSPs, pointers, and English setters, through her organization. Working closely with Orvis-endorsed properties, Meagan has built strong relationships with commercial lodges to facilitate the re-homing process.

Field to Family Dogs operates on a modest adoption fee of $400, covering veterinary and operational costs. As a non-profit organization, contributions are fully tax-deductible, allowing supporters to help fund the organization’s mission.

Despite juggling her responsibilities at Orvis Austin, Field to Family Dogs, and being a full-time student, Meagan remains dedicated to her cause. She is gearing up for fundraising efforts to support the growing needs of the organization.

If you’re inspired by Meagan’s story and want to help or adopt a dog, visit fieldtofamilydogs.org, or find them on Facebook and Instagram. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these deserving dogs and give them a second chance at a loving home.
